How Search Works
A user types into a Search Box and hits return – but what actually happens?
The Search Box doesn’t do a great deal of work in itself.
Its main task is to get the browser to submit the query to a Results Page.
Results Pages – currently Classic – are basically Web Part pages pre-loaded with all the Web Parts necessary to run a search, and show results.
It’s the Search Results Web Part the does most of the hard work, and sends the query to the Query Processing Component to kick of the actual searching process.
The Search Results Web Part also handles the pagination.
It then formats the results with appropriate Display Templates, which are rendered client side.
We’ll look at more search Web Parts tomorrow.
