Little Gotchas – 04
Today’s lesson: you will probably end up buying a migration tool.
The free options are great, but they are limited. Here are some of the third-party alternatives.
ShareGate (http://1jj.uk/sharegate) and Saketa Migrator (http://1jj.uk/saketa) are two competent and competing products. They both operate on a product-license-only basis. ShareGate operates a yearly subscription model. Both are licenced per seat.
Metalogix Essentials (http://1jj.uk/metavis) and AvePoint DocAve Migrator (http://1jj.uk/docave) are the big guns of migration. They both have a license-plus-data-pump model.
So, you pay per gigabyte you migrate. You also pay handsomely for support.
BitTitan MSPComplete (http://1jj.uk/mspcomplete) takes a service-based approach. SharePoint Migration is one of the agents you can add to their service.
All of these tools will migrate both structure and content.
Another thing they all have in common is this: they will leave gaps.
And you’ll have to close those gaps with scripting.
The smallest gaps we found were left by Saketa Migrator. One of the younger arrivals, but don’t let that put you off giving them a go.
